Memories and First Impressions...

Everyone seems to be doing this right now so I guess I'll hop on the bandwagon!!! It could be fun --- 
1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory and your first impression that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember--it can be funny, weird, awkward, random, etc.!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

This could be fun! I know it's kinda old doing things like this after a while, BUT I look forward to your comments!!! This could be fun.

My new love!

There she is, the blue beauty, hanging in all her glory. I got a new bike on Monday. It was time for an upgrade from my first bike to help me step it up a bit. Today I rode my usual path when I do a 60 minute ride and I cut off 6 minutes from my normal 60 minute ride and went the same distance. I am stoked and can't wait for my next triathlon now! 

Revenge of the Mouse?

Remember this? Well, I think our little friend came back for revenge. Rewind to about 3 weeks ago...the story goes something like this:

Jessica: Wakes up at 4am to catch a flight for work, goes into the closet, sees something with 4 legs and a tail run across the floor. Jessica wakes Sean up and says, "I saw a mouse in our closet."

Sean: No you didn't, it's 4am, you're seeing things.

Jessica: It was a either a mouse or a lizard but I saw something

Sean: put a towel in front of the door, I'll look at it when I wake up

Later that day...

Sean: I looked in the closet and there was nothing there

Jessica: Well, I know I saw something

A day later...

Sean: Notice anything funny about this bag of bread? Look closely

Jessica: There's a hole chewed through it with small bites in the bread!! Gross!

Sean: I found some mouse droppings in the pantry by the bread. I think we may have a mouse in the house.

Jessica: You think so!?!

The next few nights...we left mouse traps out but no takers. Until one night Sean decides to put towels over the mouse traps and then clean them up in the morning because we obviously aren't going to catch it this way. The next morning there is blood on the towel, the mouse trap has gone off, the peanut butter that was on the mouse trap is gone, and yet there is no mouse!

Jessica: You mean to tell me we now have a wounded mouse in our house? Nice.

The next night...sound asleep; drool and all (yes I drool, don't judge me, at least I don't snore!) 

Jessica: (wakes up screaming and jumps out of bed, as she runs to the other side of the room) I've been bit, I've been bit!

Sean: What?!? (he jumps out of bed too-having no clue what is going on)

Jessica: I've been bit by the mouse! 

Sean: Where?

Jessica: On my arm (I look where I knew I had been bit yet I have no physical marks on my arm whatsoever).   Ok, so maybe I wasn't bit, maybe I was dreaming; but I swear I felt something on my arm.

Sean starts looking in our room. He shakes the curtain and yells--there's a mouse! 

Jessica jumps onto the dresser in one leap. 

Sean: Go get a bucket!

Jessica: (gets the bucket and takes her place back on the dresser) Get that thing outta here!

Sean moves the dresser and the mouse runs out. Sean tries to catch it but it is way too fast. It runs out of our room and right under the door into Carter's room.

Jessica: Get Carter out of there-now. 

Sean gets Carter out and Jessica lays Carter in another room. The mouse is behind Carter's dresser. 

A plan is devised to close all the doors and put towels in front of the doors so the mouse can't go in any other rooms. 

Sean: I'll move the dresser and you catch the mouse.

Jessica: NO,  I'll move the dresser and YOU catch the mouse. 

The dresser is moved, the mouse runs out (that sucker is FAST). The mouse runs, confused by the towels, it turns in circles, Sean puts the bucket over it. It is captured. Sean and Jessica are proud of their capture; but did not think their plan all the way through. 

Jessica: Now what? 

Sean: I don't know. 

Jessica: I'll get some cardboard to slide under the bucket. 

Sean: (slides the cardboard under the bucket--the tail gets stuck and Jessica screams). Now what do we do? Let's put it in a bag to get rid of it. (the mouse is now transfered to a big plastic bag.)

Sean: It's kinda cute. Let's keep it to show Carter in the morning. 

Jessica: What kind of CRAZY are you? Let's get rid of it. (we go outside)

Sean: You might want to go inside for this (quietly disposes of the mouse) 

Jessica: I can't sleep in there now. We have to wash the sheets.

Sean: You don't even know if the mouse was ever even on you--you were probably dreaming the whole thing and it was coincidental that it was actually in our room. 

Needless to say, it took about a week before I was sleeping well in my room again. 

It's over!

I did my triathlon in Sierra Vista. This was my 5th one and by far the hardest one I have done! It was pretty hilly! There was a big hill right at the end of the run that was pretty killer. The water was freezing in the pool. I'm glad it's over. I finished with a time of 1:40:02  The swim was 800 meters, the bike was 13 miles, and the run was 3.1 miles. It was fun to stay at Spencer and Marlee's house with Aaron and Alicia. Spencer, Marlee, Aaron, and I all did the triathlon. Marlee did awesome with a 1st place finish. I took 6th. Tri in the Pines here we come!! (our next triathlon in August)

*We had a really fun 4th of July weekend in Sierra Vista with my brother and his wife, and my other family members that went down there. I am too lazy to do a separate post about it; it was the BEST fireworks show we have EVER seen.
*Carter has an ear-infection; from Friday to Monday we got 12 hours of sleep.
*Carter has to stop swim lessons because of his ear infection :(
*Why is it when you bend the rules for someone, they totally take advantage of it? (my training sessions our limited to 15, a school asked to have 20 and promised they would have no more than that. I show up to a group of 35. Ridiculous)
*I'm very nervous about my triathlon this weekend
*I am doing really well on building up our 3 month food supply and am very excited about it
*I am reading two VERY boring books for work to improve my abilities in my profession
*My phone broke last Friday and I have been DYING without it. I think it got water damaged.
*I think Carter says "Mama" about 900 times a day.
*I could really go for some ice cream right now but am going to go to bed instead

Swim Lessons

Carter started his swim lessons this week and is totally loving it. I swear this kid was born to live in the water. He can't get enough of it! But we have to be careful because he has no problem jumping right in, thinking he can swim, without his floaties on. He kept doing that in class yesterday when the teacher was working with another student. It makes me very nervous to have such a fearless kid.

"Kid"

Carter calls his cousin Cameron (in the picture below) "Kid." We think he got this from me always referring to the cousins as "the kids." He says all the other cousin names, yet continues to call Cameron "kid." It is pretty cute. "Kid" and his sister Caitlyn have been staying with us for the past few days while their parents and sister were in Dallas for a volleyball tournament. We have had loads of fun and Carter LOVES having them here. We don't want to let them go home! Today we went to a movie, had a water balloon fight, went swimming in the hot tub, had some yummy pudding, and had a bar-b-que. What a perfect summer day!!

Makeover

I've been wanting to redo the curtains in our pool room for so long now. Our other ones just looked too formal with the pool table and they were pretty sun damaged. I was finally able to redo them this week and love how they turned out. A shout out to my mom for all the help she gave! (I must have called her a dozen times trying to figure out how much fabric I needed!!) I am still trying to decide if I like the pillows on the chairs though. I'm not sold yet. What do you think?

Family Home Evening Board

I made this really cute board at Enrichment and now I'm not really sure what I'll do with it. It is a white board/magnetic board on one side and then on the other side it is flannel. I loved that it was a flannel board but I kinda thought when I signed up for it that we were going to make flannel "characters" or pictures to go along with it for lessons. So now I have a flannel board with not much to put on it. I do have a book of Carter's called "The Miracles of Jesus" that has flannel pictures in it that I could use but those will only work with lessons on Jesus. Where can I get other flannel things to use for lessons?

Tweenlight Fan Club

I was on my beloved Southwest Airlines Flight yesterday evening trying to make it home from California. I boarded and found my seat, a nice aisle seat with someone who looked nice enough but not too chatty sitting by the window. The crew had just made an announcement that this was a full flight and to take the first seat you saw. A woman in the aisle looks at the middle seat open next to me and then looks at me. I ask if she would like to sit there and she says, "Actually, would you mind moving over there (points at another seat) so my husband and I can sit together." (I was a little shocked to hear this request, I was already settled into my seat, this was only an hour flight and she was in her 40's. It's not like she was being separated from her 3 year old). I kindly reply, "So you want me to give up my aisle seat for a middle seat so you can sit together." The strange woman says, "Well yes, if you don't mind." I reply, "Well actually I do mind, but I'll do it." The strange woman says, "Oh no, don't worry about it." I reply, "No, no, let me get my stuff."  I proceed to move over to my new middle seat and the woman sitting in the aisle says she will scoot over to the middle, I nicely reply, "no, there is no need to inconvenience everyone." Maybe I had had a really long day and was already on edge (I had 35 people come to my training even though I told the school twice that 15 participants was our max. I had major crowd control issues all throughout my training) because I am not normally a confrontational person. I usually think of the perfect line to say back to someone about 15 minutes after the moment has passed. So 1. Yes I was nice and moved for her but 2. I said what I wanted to say (without being too rude) to really tell her that it was a little ridiculous for her to ask me to move (I mean, come on seriously, you can't be separated from your husband for 1 hour?-maybe you shoulda checked in earlier so you coulda boarded in the A group to pick better seats). 

But now onto the better part of the story. So I end up sitting next to this girl who looks about 12. She looks a little scared and is obviously flying by herself. I decide to start making some conversation with her. I happen to be holding my book I am reading (The Host by Stepahine Meyer), she asks if I like Stephanie Meyer. I do and so does she. The conversation proceeds and goes something like this with the other girl doing most of the talking: 

12 year old: "Oh my gosh, I love Twilight, it was so awesome. I totally could not put the book down and I don't even like to read. I read all 3 books like so fast. There are a group of us girls at school that sit together and 5 of us like Edward and 5 of us like Jacob. And we totally argue about who is better. It is so cool. I like Edward. I can't wait for the movie to come out. I have so many pictures on my phone. (proceeds to show me pictures). Here's one my friend cropped of Bella to show what she will look like when she chooses Edward. See how pale her skin is. It's so cool. I have pictures of the Cullens too. I think I will read all the books again before Breaking Dawn comes out but not until school starts again because I really don't like to read. When I was reading New Moon and Edward wasn't in it for so long I was like dying and I said to my friend when does Edward come back and she told me and I almost died making it that far."

I realized that I had so much in common with this girl (except for sitting at a lunch table with other girls arguing over Edward and Jacob). We both loved the same books. And then I realized, I am "totally" into these books that a bunch of tweens are raving about. Apparently, I just joined the Tweenlight Fan Club! 

Random Sampler

We've had one busy week so far. Carter has a new fascination with carrying his Mickey Mouse around with him. We've done lots of swimming. Some friends in our neighborhood went out of town and told us to use their pool anytime and we have sure taken them up on it. Carter has been loving it. He is getting ready for his swim lessons that start next month. 

Carter must think the bathtub is his swimming pool--he loves to lay on his back in the tub!! 
Other random thoughts: 

* I returned my rental car at the airport today and the woman first told me I looked very nice. Then she saw I was from Phoenix and said I shouldn't be hot while in Albuquerque. I said no I'm not hot, just tired. She then said, "well, you're hot, just not temperature hot; that's what all the boys must tell you anyways."   Weird. 

* I'm pretty sure I saw some sort of critter run across my closet floor this morning at 4 while getting ready for work. Sean thinks I was just seeing things at 4 in the morning. Now I am kinda freaked out about going in my closet. 

* By the end of the week I will have done trainings for work in AZ, CA, and NM. I don't like it. 

* I have gotten a flat tire on my bike 2 weeks in a row in the same exact location. What are the chances of that happening? 

* 2 weeks ago one of my best friends, and one of Sean's best friends got married. We set them up 2 years ago (in fact the first time they met was at the hospital when Carter was born). Their first date was at our house and we went hot tubbing. This is the first time either Sean or I have played match maker and what a huge success!!  

* I feel bad for people who work in Customer Service. I don't work in Customer Service, but had to deal with LOTS of complaining customers yesterday. It was exhausting, I can't imagine doing that full time. 

* Carter did not do very well in his tumbling class this week. He only want to do the activities if none of the other kids did them. Not sure what got into him. 

* We're going to story time at the library and swimming tomorrow before I leave for the airport. I'm getting a much needed tan this summer and am loving it! 

Airport Fun

My job used to require me to fly A LOT. We are talking 2-3 flights a week on a regular basis. That has slowed down tremendously in the last 2 years. It is a rare occasion now that I have to fly. I became very good at going to the airport; it was almost annoying to travel among rookies as they slowed everything down! These rookies and their rookie mistakes still bother me when I have to fly but that is another topic. Nothing bothers me more at the airport than the actual airline company US Airways. Southwest is my airline of choice. By far, the nicest employees and almost always on time. I have only been on a handful of US Airways flights that have been on time. This last Thursday/Friday were no exception. In fact my Friday flight came in almost 30 minutes early. How do you do that? I had to stand outside waiting for my ride to pick me up because I was so early. Anyways, my flight was about to begin boarding so the usual crowd rushes up to the podium-even though US Airways boards in zones anyways-so it doesn't really matter if you rush up to the podium because you are probably in zone 19 anyways. When the woman began announcing boarding, this is what she said, "At this time we are pre-boarding for flight 396 with non-stop service to Ontario. We will begin boarding 1st class passengers, passengers who need assistance, passengers traveling with children under 5, Elite members, Silver members, gold members, Mastercard lifetime card holders, and Visa Signature Select members." What?? I thought the list was never going to end. And why is it that someone with a Visa Signature Select Card is more important than my Visa Business Card (well, maybe it's because my card is through Southwest, but still). Next, they began boarding Zone 1. I was Zone 2. I was in seat 6A. However, by the time I boarded the flight was half full and there was no luggage space above my seat. I had to put it further back which makes it very difficult to retrieve when trying to depart the plane after landing. Ridiculous. 

Summer Fun

Carter had lots of fun today playing in his pool and mowing the yard. We were out there for 2 hours! This kid sure loves to be outside. We bought the pool today and he was so excited. I picked out a couple different pools at first but kept Carter kept saying no. Then when I showed him this pool he shouted Yes! (he's not spoiled at all). The rest of the time we were in the store, anyone we passed, Carter would say, "Hi, my pool" while pointing at his new pool. He is definitely a water baby!!

We're back...

Sean and I just got back on Sunday from our week long cruise to the Mexican Riviera. It was the most relaxing vacation ever and very much needed. We were very lucky to have my sister Wendy and her family watch Carter for us. You can read about their experience with Carter here. I cried when I dropped Carter off at Wendy's. I cried on the cruise ship at the sight of the first two year old I saw--but when I saw a two year old the next day throwing a fit and the parents not knowing what to do, I smiled to myself as I lay on the lounge chair reading my book! Wendy forgot to mention on her blog that she practically had Carter potty trained by the time we came home!! Once before we left he asked to go potty on his own--took off his diaper, and actually went pee. I thought it was just a fluke. Well, apparently not! This last week he asked several times to go potty and even said he had to go "poops" and did it on the toilet. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. But sure enough when we went to pick up Carter--he said "poops" we went to the bathroom and he did his business. Then later he peed on the sliding glass door before I had his diaper back on so I'm not sure he's there yet but he's made some huge progress this week! Here are some of my favorite pics from our trip. The pictures are in reverse order of our trip--but get over it...I am still recovering from being gone and am very tired!! I didn't feel like taking the time to change it around. 

We had a very talented person cleaning our room--each night we were surprised with a new towel creation. This was our favorite! Not quite sure what it is though?

The Carnival Pride baby! Highlights of the trip: laying out, going to the sauna each morning, taking some cycling classes, laying out on the beach, laughing at people in the Karoke Bar, the lobster dinner, the beans at the restaurant in Mazatlan, getting a massage on the ship, watching Sean touch the hand rail with a sign that clearly said "Don't touch, Wet Paint!" and then seeing the very next guy do the same thing!, hearing, "Oh Sorry Sir!" when the guy who came into clean our room saw Sean naked!!!, all you can eat ice cream cones, taking naps during the middle of the day, and spending time with Sean. 
On our first stop in Puerta Vallarta we went on an excursion to a private island for snorkeling, kyaking, lunch on the beach and fun with the monkeys and parrots.
